We apologize for taking so long to set this up but our original idea was to have quite a few series reviews, etc up before we opened for business. Alas, life has gotten in the way of fun and this was not to be. Instead we have decided to open up the blog with a few reviews and just do one or two [or more!] per week. This is by far easier on us all since we do have personal blogs as well as a book review blog on Fantasy, Paranormal and Sci-fi.

There are tons of blogs and sites dedicated to all these things so we've decided that one more couldn't hurt! (>_<)

In truth we will strive to bring you something from all genres along with recommendations, free graphics and, most important, links to various places where you can download this stuff!

This is possible because we will tend to cover those titles which are not as yet licensed in the US therefore are readily, and totally free, available online for your download or viewing pleasure.

We suggest you check back a few times per week as we will try our very hardest to bring this puppy up to speed in most, if not all, the series we've watched or read.

Let's just say it's a lot since some of us have been watching anime or reading manga for practically all our lives. To keep matters simple we are starting with the most current titles [i.e. anything put out in the 2000's] and working our way back to the 90's, 80's and 70's.

This is because, as stated earlier, the newer titles won't be licensed and are easier to get online. If you are a newbie to the anime, manga, or comics world this is the best thing for you. After all, you do not want to go out and waste money on something you may not enjoy. We, therefore, suggest that you try the newer, free series [from any of the genres that may look interesting to you] and then work your way back from there.

Although all of these get a bad reputation they are not for children or perverted old men. With so many genres you are sure to find something you like. Also, many of the series are NOT targeted for children because of violence, drug used, sexual content, and other adult situations that children should not be exposed to.

Before you turn up your nose thinking it's all Pokemon and Sailor Moon we suggest you have a look around and you may just be surprised at what you find.

Trinity Blood

Genre: Shounen, action, vampires, sci-fi

Content: some violence and/or nudity

Synopsis: The future is plagued by the ongoing war between humans and vampires. After an apocalypse that wiped out most of civilization, the Vatican is sort of like the center of the world and they send their priests to take care of the vampires. Father Abel Nightroad is one such priest who is seemingly clumsy and a pacifist who goes to great lengths to avoid killing anyone. Of course, things aren't always as simple as they seem.

Reviewer's Notes One of my absolute favorite shows. I love vampires and Abel Nightroad is one uber cool vamp. The action is pretty slick and the story is nice as well. I also love the evilness that is Cain. Oh and Tres Iqus is my other favorite character. An android priest!

Hikaru no Go

Mangaka: Scenario à Hotta Yumi & Drawing à Obata Takeshi

Other works: Hotta-sensei has a new manga about speed skating and Obata-sensei just completed Death Note

Status: Finished. 23 volumes + 1 Artbook

Genre: Shounen, Sport (kinda), Supernatural

Synopsis: Shindo Hikaru is a normal sixth grader (12 y.o.) who’s going through his grandfather’s attic in search for something he could sell to get some money. He comes across a goban (i.e. a Go board, Go being a kind of chess game) which is stained with blood; however, his childhood friend Akari doesn’t see anything. Hikaru suddenly hears a voice asking him if he can see the blood stains and Hikaru answers yes. Then, a man wearing Hein period clothes, with long, purple hair wearing a black hat appears in front of him: Fujiwara Sai. Sai was the emperor go player and was wrongly accused of cheating and so, kicked out from the royal court. Heart-broken, he committed suicide. Later on, he was able to haunt a young man and through him, Sai kept his passion alive, playing thousands of Go games. That young man was known as Shusaku Honinbo, which is still considered by many as the best go player. Unfortunately, Shusaku died at a young age and Sai returned to his goban, waiting for the next person he could haunt. Sai’s goal for surviving 1000 years is to learn the “Hand of God,” the ultimate go move. At first, Hikaru is not interested in Go, but accepts to let Sai play through his body in exchange of some help for his history homework. That’s when he meets Touya Akira, a boy of HIkaru’s age, son of Meijin Touya, the best Japanese Go player at the moment. Although young, Akira’s go level is already of one of a professional player, but he lacks some motivation to pass the pro exam. After being crushed by Sai, Akira develops a rivalry with Hikaru while Hikaru’s interest for Go blooms. Hikaru has a real potential for Go and having Sai as a master, he grows very rapidly. Soon, Hikaru chases after Akira and Akira, after Sai and rapidly, both enter the hard world of professional Go.

Manga art: One word. Awesome! I just love it and Obata-sensei’s art is just amazingly beautiful. Of course, it took a little for the art to be consistent, but once it was? The art is really easy on the eye, you have a lot of handsome characters (Sai!) and lots of details to each. Everyone has their particularities and everyone is different. As I said, there’s lots of details, nice and clean background. The art improved a lot as the manga went… but the most amazing? Is that without the readers realizing, the characters grow, not just mentally, but also physically. You know, it’s like when you’re around of some very young teenagers… because you’re always around them, you don’t realize that they grow till you pay attention to them… well the same thing happened in this manga. It’s not only that the characters are bigger or taller, it’s really their face, the way they dress, the aura around them. So yeah, the art complements the storyline very well and this was a good collaboration.

Reviewer’s verdict: Again, one of my top 10 manga. I said that the art was amazing; well the storyline is just as compelling. You really get to see, predominantly, Hikaru’s growth, but also Akira and all of their friends. Although there is a ghost, the story is still very realistic. All the games that were played are real games that have been played in the past by pro players. The go system and procedures to become a go pro go player are all real, even the tournaments… An another positive point with go, is that unlike sports such as basket ball, football, etc.., a single game cannot last an entire volume, so the story never drags. There’s always something happening, a step leading to another phase of Hikaru’s growth. Hikaru’s character is good; he’s a real kid you know. Can be immature, but he’s also quite sensitive… Spoiler – Highlight to read - when Sai disappeared, Hikaru’s depression and guilt were so touching, he really is a good boy. End of Spoilers. Sai provides good comedy relief, but also, he’s an important character, very lovable and he can be ruthless. The manga wouldn’t have had the same success without Sai. All the other characters are very interesting and Hotta-sensei and Obata-sensei did their best to develop them. Overall, you have to give a try to this manga… you think that Go is boring, a million ppl thought the same… and they all changed their mind. My only complain with this manga is the ending. I understand that Hotta-sensei was asked to continue the manga after where she planned to end and she did very well; however, she could have continued as she really left us hanging… please, write a sequel T_T

Grading: This series deserves 4.75/5 because of the abrupt ending.

Licensed? Yes, in French by Tonkam (complete) and in English, by Viz (vol. 8 in Nov.)

Scanslation? Complete by primarily two teams (Toriyama’s World and Hikaru no Go Translations) Good luck to find them tho ^^;

Anime? Yes. 72 eps. + 2 OAVs. Unfortunately, it doesn’t cover the end of the story, the last tournament is missing. The anime is quite good, it follows the manga very closely and if I remember correctly, there’s no fillers which is always a plus and perhaps only one or two made up stories. The pace of the manga is very good, the music complements the series well. I like how they add a “Go with Yukari-sensei” bonus at the end of each eps. where Yukari-sensei, a 4-dan pro go player, teaches the audience how to play. Also, the voice cast did an amazing job, the voices really fit the characters and the art is quite consistent. Really, you should get the manga and the anime :D

ps - there's a pun going on during the whole length of the story... You'll often see the number "5" everywhere, on Hikaru's shirt in particular. Well the sound for "5" in Japanese is "go" :)

Legend of Basara

Mangaka: Tamura Yumi

Other works: ?

Status: Finished. 27 volumes. (The story is 25 volumes long + 2 volumes of related stories) + 2 Artbooks "Flame" & "Earth"

Genre: Shoujo, Adventure, Epic/Historical/Fantasy

Synopsis: In a futuristic Japan which looks more like the past (lots of deserts, lots of uncivilized lands, no electricity, no industrialization), the royal family is dictating and destroying the country. In a village, twins are born, one girl (Sarasa) and one boy (Tarata), and a prophecy is announced: one of the twin is the chosen child who will lead the people to freedom. As for the royal family, it is composed of the Blue King, the Red King, the Black King and the White Queen, all children of the Emperor, with the Red King being the youngest and most ambitious, trying to overtake his father. 15 years after the birth of Tarata and Sarasa, their village get annihilated by the Red King and Tarata is be-headed because he is the chosen child. Having no choice, Sarasa steps in as her brother and leads the revolution. All along the adventure, Sarasa will meet allies that will lend her their help for the revolution, all for different purposes, as well as enemies. She will also meet and fall in love with Shuri, who is unknown to her, the Red King…

Manga art: Hmmm… the art takes some getting used to… It is a mix of “classic” shoujo style with pointy nose and huge eyes, but at the same time, the art looks very rough… but it fits the story. In addition, the background also lends to the “uncivilized” feeling. So although not the prettiest art I’ve seen, there’s nothing that is not tolerable and it fits.

Reviewer’s verdict: The story and characters of this manga are all very good. Although it happens in the “future,” it always seemed like the past for me… I like how the mangaka built her story and dealt with all the issues and challenges she created and I really believe that she didn’t take the easy way out. Even when Sarasa and Shuri realized their true identities… it wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t discarded and forgotten. In fact, I was quite surprised what happened. Actually, I was surprised with the whole storyline… of course, there were some clichés, but it didn’t affect the storyline in a negative way. I really liked Shuri/Sarasa pairing and their love story was quite touching. There’s also an array of interesting secondary characters and cool stories linked to them. Also, I have to give a thumb up to the mangaka as all the little details she planted here and there were nicely connected and the side stories in the 2 last volumes tied everything up nicely. However, the story was quite long (25 volumes) and you know, you are bound to love some parts and find others less interesting… It wasn’t even that she didn’t have momentum or pace, it’s like Lords of the Ring: some parts you love (battle scenes, Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli parts) and some parts are less interesting (Frodo and Sam).

Grading: This series deserves 4/5.

Licensed? Yes, in French by Kana (complete) and in English, by Viz Shoujo (vol. 20 in Oct.)

Scanslation? There’s been some translations and some chapters scanslated, but nothing complete.

Anime? Yes. Unfortunately, the anime is only 13 eps. long and obviously, not complete. That is because the ratings weren’t high enough and the show got cancelled (which is pretty rare). If you’d like, you could watch the anime and decide what you think of it… I thought the anime was very good and it followed the manga very closely… It’s a shame it got cancelled.

Slam Dunk

Mangaka: Takehiko Inoue
Other works: REAL, The Vagabond, Buzz Beater
Status: Finished. 31 volumes/24 for deluxe edition

Genre: Shounen, sport

Synopsis: Sukuragi Hanamichi is a new junior (?) high school student at Shohoku High School with already a bad reputation. Not only is he known for his street fights, his weird dyed red hair, but also for unsuccessful love confessions: thirty-something ones rejected. He’s new love interest is Akagi Haruko, the basket ball captain’s little sister. However, like most of the other girls, she has a crush on another junior high school student, the basket ball incredible rookie Rukawa Kaede. To impress Haruko, Sakuragi joins the basket ball club as a basket ball genius, although he has no knowledge of the game, and quickly develops a rivalry with Rukawa. Due to his physical abilities and spirit, Sakuragi manages to learn the basics rapidly and becomes one of Shohoku team main pillar as his love for basket ball grows. In addition to Sakuragi’s improvement, the team is building itself up again and their goal is to go to the national’s high school tournament; however, many talented teams and players stand in their way…

Manga art: As usual, the art improves as the story goes. Although Slam Dunk was not the first manga from Inoue Takehiko, it was his first major success and so, his art has matured along the series. The artist uses the panels well to tell his story, the backgrounds are well-defined and there are details. Also, the chibi faces are sooo cute :D My only complain is that the characters look older than 15-17 years old; in my mind, they’re around 20… not that it affects the story or your enjoyment. Few things that I know have bothered others, but not me: the sweat drops. Lots of sweat drops ^^; and also, the fact that the characters don’t look like Japanese (eg: Akagi and some other players look like Afro-Americans).

Reviewer’s verdict: This is one of the best manga I’ve ever read… but it’s not only my opinion. Quite frankly, this manga is a pure classic and everyone should give it a chance. Sakuragi is an interesting protagonist; although immature, he has a strong personality and lots of self-confidence. He’ll make you laugh sooo much. Also, the mangaka has created a series of very interesting, strong secondary characters: you can’t help it but get attached to them and roots for Shohoku. Even players from other teams are awesome. This series has a good balance between comedy, suspense and action. Some manga go on and on and on and readers have difficulty to imagine an ending… in addition, you don’t want the ending to be too cliché or too predictable. Inoue Takehiko dealt with the ending very well and it was quite surprising. Really, thumbs up. Also, I enjoyed the art a lot. Nothing bothered me much, it was a style easy to get used too, most everything were proportionate and once Sakuragi cuts his hair, he was such a cutie!!!

Grading: This series definitively deserves 4.5/5

Notes: There have been a lot of rumours about a sequel and I wish it was confirmed or denied. Right now, the mangaka is working on “The Vagabond,” which is a samurai manga, for a couple of years… so maybe after.

Licensed? Yes, in French by Kana and in English, unknown. (I know a couple of volumes were published in English, but I’m not sure what happened as it seems to have stopped.)

Scanslation? Yes and complete by Tensai Project.

Anime? Yes. Slam Dunk has an anime of 101 eps. long + 4 OAV. I’ve watched some of the anime and it is not as good as the manga. It follows the manga closely for the first half and then, it’s basically composed of fillers. Also, the anime was made in the early 1990’s, probably ’93-’94, and so, the animation isn’t excellent. The movements are slow, which is bad when “watching” basket ball. If I’m not wrong, the anime never covered the end of the manga either.

Bakuretsu Tenshi

Referred to as Bakuten.

Genre: Shounen, action, comedy, mecha

Content: some violence and/or nudity

Synopsis: In a future where violence and crime rules the street in Japan, Kyohei Tachibana dreams of one day becoming a pastry chef. In order to acomplish his dreams he takes a job working for a group of very odd girls. What he doesn't know is that the girls are actually mercenaries for hire. Soon enough poor Kyohei is caught in the middle of the whatever trouble or job they happen to be in the middle of.


Reviewer's Notes This show isn't the best out there but I like it just the same. I like Jo's psycopathic personality and all the angst that comes with it; not to mention the mecha which she pilots. This will remind anime lovers of Evangelion as Jo, Meg and Kyohei look a helluva lot like Rei, Asuka and Shinji. Of course, this series comes nowhere near the greatness that is Eva but it should be enjoy for the laughs and the graphics just the same.

Blood+

Genre: Shounen, action, horror, supernatural

Content: Mature content/situations, graphic violence

Synopsis: Saya is your seemingly typical high-school girl. She lives in Okinawa with her father and two brothers, Kai and Riku. Unbeknowst to them Saya's purpose in life is to destroy the Chiropteras that threaten mankind. The reason this is not known to Saya is that she can't seem to remember her life before the year she has been living with her foster family. Soon enough Saya is awakened by a misterious stranger who seems to know a lot about Saya and her past and she is thrust once again in the fight against the monsters.


Reviewer's Notes Think of the chiropteras as vampires since they need fresh human blood to survive. One of my favorite anime despite the way it's headed. Some of my favorite characters are very much in danger of not making it to the final ep. This show is currently airing in Japan but the finale is due at the beginning of October.

Edit 10/03 - love the ending! One of the best anime I've seen in a long, long time. Recommended to everyone.

Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls

Genre: Shounen, ninja, historical, romance

Content: Mature content/situations, graphic violence, drama

Synopsis: This is the story of two warring clans that have hated each other for the better part of 400 or so years. The story takes place in 1614 and there is an uneasy peace between the two. Unfortunately Hidetada Tokugawa needs to know which of his sons will be the next shogun. The proposition? Each clan will support one of his two sons and they will have their 10 best warriors fight to the death in order to pick his succesor. To make matters more complicated, the grandchildren of each clan's current leaders are in love and soon to be married.


Reviewer's Notes [WARNING - Spoilerish]
This is one anime that seriously affected me. I actually watched the entire series in one weekend bceause I just had to know how it would all end. Of course, this being anime, I knew how it would end but I kept hoping I would, for once, be wrong. Gennosuke and Oboro's tragic love was heart wrenching. Well, for me it was. So, if you are a sensitive, emotional wreck when it comes to doom lovers, I suggest buying a box of tissues before you sit to watch this.

I think this series deserves a 4 out of 5. I loved it.

Manga genres: shonen, shojo and so on...

So, Mailyn has already explained how the anime were categorized: into types rather than genres. In fact, this way, it's easier to be more specific about what kind of anime it is. However, manga are usually classified by the age and gender of the target audience and this is basically the following are the "genres."

Oh yeah, I think I should give an explanation of how the manga industry works in Japan first. So basically, almost all manga are serialized in magazines that can be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly released... and these magazines will contain one chapter per issue, maybe two if there is a break taking place. All these magazines are sold very cheap and so almost everyone buys it. Then, as the manga is serialized in magazines, tankoubon are also released. Tankoubon are the book edition of the previous chapters and so each tankoubon contain between 5-10 chapters. Since the magazines are so cheap, they are usually recycle and readers by their favorite manga in tankoubon, which are also very cheap. There are usually no difference in the storylines between the magazines and tankoubon; however, some modifications can be made to the drawings. (esp. if the mangaka was in a hurry for the magazines, s/he will take time to re-draw for the tankoubon).

So here we go:

++ Shonen are manga usually featuring male protagonists and are characterized by high action. This genre of manga is aimed at an audience composed of young/teenagers/young adult males, although it can still appeal to many females. Some of the most popular shonen manga in the past involves sports (soccer, football, basket ball) or fighting (samurai, pirates) as well as mecha.
Magazines: Weekly Shonen Jump, Shonen Sunday...
Some titles: Bleach, Naruto, Hikaru no Go, One Piece, D-Gray Man, Hunter x Hunter, Eyeshield21, Prince of Tennis...

++ Shojo are basically girls' manga with female protagonists and a lot of romance, still aimed at teenager/young adult female audience. It also covers a wide range of subjects from historicals to fantasy. But be aware that some shojo manga are more graphically explicit than others, i.e. they contain sex scenes.
Magazines: Hana to Yume, Ribon, LaLa, Margaret, Sho-comi...
Some titles: Mars, Ouran High School Host Club, Basara, Fruits Basket, Hanakimi, Cards Captor Sakura, X...

++ Seinen are manga aimed at an older and more mature male audience. These manga are usually less action-based and have a wider variation of art styles and subject matter.
Magazines: Ultra Jump, Afternoon, Big Comic...
Some titles: 20th Century Boys, Monster, Akira, Ghost in the Shell...

++ Josei are manga drawn mostly by women aimed at a more mature women audience. The stories tend to be more realistic, based on everyday living experiences of women in Japan and contain more realistic romances instead of idealized ones. The art style is also more restrained and realistic.
Magazines: Chorus, CUTIE, Young Rose...
Some titles: Gokusen, Honey and Clover, Kimi wa Petto...

++ Kodomo are manga for kids and the plots are usually more family- orientated and feature more child-friendly themes and concepts.
Magazine: CoroCoro Comics, Comic Bonbon
Some titles: Doraemon, Hamtaro, Pokemon...

++ Yaoi are manga that features gay/homosexual relationships. This genre is highly popular with the female audience. Some of these manga are more graphically explicit while others are subtle relationships. The yaoi genre is further separates into shota where one of the protagonist is very young, and shonen-ai where the relationships are subtle and not consumated.
Magazines: BxB Gold...
Some titles: Haru wo Daite Ita, Cut, Silver Diamond, Hybrid Child, Bronze...

++ Yuri is the female version of yaoi, i.e. that the manga features lesbian relationships. Sorreh, but I'm not completely familiar with this genre ^^;

++ Hentai is basically drawn pornography... need more explanations? :P Again, not familiar with this genre...

++ Doujinshi are fan-art or self-published manga. Most of the time tho, doujinshi mangaka will take characters of pre-existing manga and draw stories for fan-service. Altho some mangaka draws their own doujinshi :P Anyway, these doujinshi are very popular with the fans and can be very expensive, since they are drawn in limited quantities. Obviously, as you can guess, there are no magazines for these.

So this basically covers all the genres. Altho manga usually have target audiences, the audiences are not restricted to the genre that correspond to their age or gender. What I mean is that these genres are not exclusive, you can love anything... I'm a girl and I love shonen, shojo and yaoi manga as you'll see. All that matter is really that you find the stories/plots good, interesting and entertaining and that you appreciated the art :) That's one of the extra tho, the art :) Some mangaka have incredible talents and their drawings are soooo beautiful! Thanks God there are art books, which are collections of the best art and color pages by a mangaka or of a manga.

Just a note of warning, the two main genres of manga are shonen and shojo. Very often, seinen manga will be categorized as shonen and josei, as shojo. So don't be surprised if you never see seinen or josei... ppl, esp. foreigners, rarely allude to seinen and josei :P

So I hope I didn't bore anyone and I hope I was clear and that it will help the newbies :D

Playing Your Downloads

OK, so you've finally downloaded some episodes but, when you try to watch them, the player tells you it can play the file.

Don't panic and, most important, don't give up. LOL.

It's probably one of two things: you are missing the codecs that player needs to play the file or you don't have the right player to view that file type.


First, the codecs. It's way easier to just install the CCCP pack and that way you will, most likely, never have to worry about codecs ever again. Click HERE to download the pack. Just install it once it's done downloading. It's a self installing so clicking on the download will guide you through the steps. It's a very fast and uncomplicated process.

Now, if you've downloaded an episode and it's file type MVK or OMG, you need a player that plays these types of files.

The following are all the places online to download anime series/episodes for free. Some are fansub groups, others simply host the series. Many of the series can be found in a lot of the groups so, if one link for a group doesn't work, try another group and they may have the series as well.

This is all pretty simple stuff but, if you have no clue, it can take you a few minutes to figure it out. I figure I save you a few minutes so here are most of the ways you may encounter to download anime online.



Direct Downloads

If the link takes you to:

OxyShare

1.Scroll all the way down.
2.Look for a blue link that will say something like "Fast Free Download" and click on it. It will take you to another page.
3.On this other page scroll all the way down. You will see something saying "Please wait __ seconds" and the seconds are counting down.
4.Wait until the countdown is done and the link will show up right there.
5.Click on it and, when the Save window pops up, Save As to your computer.



Megaupload

1.Right besides the huge Megaupload sign you will see something that says "Please enter ___ here:"

2.Enter the validation code and click "Download" button.
3.A countdown will begin.

1.Scroll down and click on the Free button NOT the Premium download button.
2.You will see a "Download Ticker reserved" and a countdown.
3.Wait until the countdown is done and you will see 3 choices for download but the first will already be picked so don't worry about this.
4.Below that it will say "No premium-user. Please enter [validation code] here:" so enter the code and click the Download button next to it.
5.A Save-As window will pop-up so save to your hard drive.

1.On the middle of the page you will see this:

2.Soon as it's over you will see "Download File" so clickity click on it.

5.On the next page scroll down and you will see "Click here to download file".
6.A Save-As window will pop-up so save file to your hard drive.

Programs

Bittorent
To download bittorents you need to first download the program and then, any time you click on a bittorrent link, the program will automatically download it for you. Easy as pies.

To download Bittorrent program:

1.Go here and select the Download for your operating system [i.e. Mac, Windows, etc]
2.Once the download is finished, instal the program.
a.Find the download wherever you saved it in your computer and click on it then it will tell you what to do to install. It's very simple and fast so don't be scared :-P

To download bittorent files:

1.If the link is a bittorent file just click on it. Bittorent will take care of the rest and download it for you.
a.If it's the first time you download something using the program it will most likely ask you if you want it to use the program to download all similar [bittorent] files. Click on yes so it won't ask you every time.

**NOTE on bittorent files. They will most likely not download all at once. It's OK. If you need to get oofline or turn off the computer go ahead. Next time you are online simply open bittorent and it will pick up the download where it left off. No worries.





IRC
A bit trickier than the rest but you will not be using this except once in a very blue moon as 99.9% of the series are available as Direct downloads or Bittorrent. Nonetheless here it is if you wan to know.

To install the IRC program

1.Go here and download the program then. [pick country closest to you, they are all the same]
2.Once it's done downloading, click on it to install.


To download files using IRC

1.Find the channel of the Fansub group you want to download from.

About Our Categories

Notes on how we've divided the Anime categories.

++We've divided the anime section into types rather than genres because newbies to anime will not know the difference between shounen, shoujo, etc.

++Mecha is reserved for big robots [i.e. Gundam] and we wanted to be able to include all robots big & small ergo the category being name Robots and not Mecha.

++Supernatural includes demons, spirits and horror, etc.

++There is no horror category as we have Vampires and Supernatural category therefore horror anime is bound to be in one or both.

++Fantasy pertains to any anime that utilizes elements found in fantasy such as magic use, etc. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's a Lord of the Rings type anime.

++Steampunk and Cyberpunk categories are for any anime that has elements from either genre. It doesn't necessarily mean that the anime series itself is 100% on or the other. In case there are questions regarding what is what:

Steampunk is defined as - usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It could be described by the slogan "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner." It includes fiction with science fiction, fantasy or horror themes. It focuses more intently on real, theoretical or cinematic Victorian-era technology, including steam engines, clockworks, and difference engines. While much of steampunk can be found in Victorian-era settings, it doesn't necessarily have to be, and has expanded into medieval settings, the fantasy genre, and many others.[1].

Cyberpunk is defined as - sub-genre of science fiction, noted for its focus on "high tech and low life" and taking its name from the combination of cybernetics and punk. It featured advanced technology such as computers or information technology coupled with some degree of breakdown in the social order. .[1].



Manga is divided into it's appropriate genres as it's our experience that most manga readers have already been exposed to anime and know the difference between each genre.
